The amount of current is determined by the size of a conductor. A solid conductor with a bigger cross sec area carries more current than a stranded wire with a less cross sec area. However stranded conductors are more preferred because of flexibility of working with them and maybe because of the skin effect as well.

according to coefficient of proximity effect in table 2 of IEC60287-1-1, round and stranded conductor is 0.8 and for round and solid is 1.0. Stranded is much more better. Usually the type of conductor class is to measure the flexibility.

It depends on size of wire, diameter, number of strands and type of conductor

Stranded wire because current concentrate on the surfaces of a wire called skin effect. As such a solid wire has limited current for stranded wire each strand will carry current and will have its own skin effect.

From the formula R=PL/A resistance rise with the fall of surface area ,inverse proportion relation between Resistance and Area ,so stranded wire has more area that a solid wire so more area less resistance. Less resistance/less electron flow opposition, more electron flow (current)
