Significance of power factor:- 

1. Cosine of angle between voltage & current in a circuit is called power factor. 2. It is a measure of the real power in a circuit. 3. Inductive & capacitive circuits causes low PF. Low PF causes increase in current resulting in increase in copper losses in the system. 4. Large KVA rating equipment 5. Greater conductor size 6. CosØ = R/Z 

CosØ= Active Power/ Apparent Power
